スポンジ劣化

いつも音楽への愛情溢れるコメントが素敵なmozart1889さんのブログで、昔の組み物CDに緩衝材として入っていたスポンジが劣化してきているという記事を見つけ、あわててCDケースをひっくり返しました。私はCDの出始めと就職した時期が近く、要するに独身のいちばん金回りが良い時期に、初期のCDをそこそこ買ったのです。このころ買った、特にDG、DECCA、フィリップスのポリグラム一派の組CDのケースには、必ず厚さ2mm程度のスポンジが封入されていました。いま、それが劣化してCDを蝕んでいると言うのです！

あわてて見ただけのことはありました。最悪なのは、ジュリーニ/ロス・フィルの「ファルスタッフ」。アルミの蒸着が剥がれて向こうが透けて見えます。

他にもスポンジが張り付いたままはがれない、とか、いろいろ危なそうなCDがありました。ここしばらくはCDのチェックもかねて、このへんのポリグラム系を聴いていきたいと思います。

恐いですよね。
カセットテープなんかも早くデジタル化しないと、と思っているのですが、デジタル化したあとの記録媒体もどうすればいいのか、考えどころだと思います。

ああ、まさに画像の状態！僕もカラヤン／ＢＰＯの「カルメン」がこうなっておりました。
ＤＧ系のオペラを当時よく買っていましたので、ジュリーニの「トロヴァトーレ」やカラヤンの「ばらの騎士」、それにカラヤン最後のＤＧベートーヴェン交響曲全集やブルックナー全集など・・・・・実に危なかったです。
保護材・緩衝材のはずが、今や危険物・・・・困ったもんですね。

カセットテープ、レコードのコピーはけっこうCDを買いましたが、ライヴのエアチェックがかなり残っていますが、切れたり、磁性が劣化して音が小さくなったりしています。CD-RやDVD-Rは光反応だから劣化してビットが消えてしまうし、ハードディスクも動かなくなってしまいます。困ったものですねえ。

そちらはカルメンでしたか。私もカラヤンのヴェルディ/レクイエム、ブリテンのピーター・グライムズあたりが逝ってしまいました（泣）　カラヤンのバタフライは大丈夫だったのですが（全部聴きました）、ぽつぽつと痕が残っており、まだ反応が進行するかもしれません。はやくバックアップをとらないと…。

スポンジが入ってると、こうなりますが、入っていなくても８０年代に製造された輸入盤は、ほとんどが光にかざすと銀河がみえます。ようはスポンジが劣化を早めるだけで、もともとアルミ層が錆びやすかったのだろうと思っています。

コメントありがとうございます。要するに、80年代のCDは酸化に弱いということですね。ずいぶん脆弱というか、光学系デバイスのあやうさを感じました。80年代後半に、CDの成型機を作っている業者さんにお話を伺う機会があって、「ポリカーボネートも樹脂だからレーザーで劣化しますよ」と聞いていたのですが、そんな生易しいものではなかったわけですね…。
